 Who We Are

A Note From Memento

"We believe that every person has a story to tell.

From our forefathers and mothers before us to the unborn generations ahead... a story exists, just waiting to be shared. The daily routines and fleeting experiences we share with our families form deep traditions over time. We often forget how important these moments are until it's too late...

We started Memento out of a deep respect for our ancestors and a belief that there is only one human experience that connects us all. Each person's story is a chapter in the book of life and it is up to each of us to preserve that story. There are deep roots that connect each of us to our loved ones and to the loved ones of generations past and future.

There is a much larger story we all must tell."

Michael Lee

Co-Founder / Executive Producer

From a young age, Michael has always been interested in creative pursuits. He has been painting since the age of 3 and wrote his first song on the piano at the age of 7. Over time, his passion has guided him to focus on the human experience and the art of storytelling. Prior to starting Memento Stories, he created This Wisdom Project, a social platform that explored the question, ‘What does it mean to be human?’ across different walks of life.

Michael comes from a large extended family who taught him the value of preserving traditions and legacies. He went to Westminster College for his Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing while still exploring creative ventures in film, music, and painting. With a background in business and creative storytelling, Michael started Memento Stories as a service that bridges the gap between creating beautiful works of art and providing a meaningful service that people can enjoy for generations.

Souk Mounsena

Co-Founder / Creative Director

Souk has been working professionally as a creative director for almost 10 years. He graduated from the Film Institute of Utah in 2010 and hit the ground running. His first job was with an advertising agency, specializing in design work. As he became proficient with his work in design and branding, he started his own branding company (The Pursuit Society) with a friend. Over the years, Souk has continued to expand his creative skill set, most recently experimenting with photography.

In 2018, Souk’s father passed away and acted as a catalyst to make Memento Stories a reality. With this loss, Souk was painfully reminded of how short the time with our loved ones is and how fleeting the moments we cherish are. Souk and Michael founded Memento Stories shortly thereafter as a way to help other people capture these precious memories while there is still time.

 Our Process

01: CONNECTION (1 HOUR)

We understand every story is different. That's why before we start filming, we have an open conversation with you to find out the best way to capture and tell your story. We set up a free, one-hour consultation to connect with you and your loved ones.

This initial consultation is a great way to fully understand the value Memento Stories can provide and there is absolutely no obligation to buy. We believe in helping each person find a voice for the story they'd like to tell. If we think you can tell your story without our services, we will tell you how at no cost to you.

02: RECOMMENDATION (2-3 DAYS)

After meeting with you and your loved ones, we take a few days to discuss the best narrative that fully captures your story. We take a number of factors into consideration before we make a recommendation to you: your budget, the target audience, number of new moments to capture on film, amount of old footage we have access to and any additional family/friends who will be involved. We present you with the package we think will best capture your story.

(See
Pricing page for details)

03: PRODUCTION (1-3 WEEKS)

Once the service agreement has been signed, we start crafting the perfect story for you and your loved ones. We gather all of your old home video and photo content, choose the most impactful questions to ask during the interview, and pick dates to film the interview and any other relevant activities.

After filming, we will weave together the old and new footage and deliver a first edit of the video via a private link on our website. From there, you have 48 hours to review the footage and let us know of any changes you'd like to see for the final edit. From filming/editing to packaging the final product, we keep in contact with you throughout the entire process, ensuring we provide exactly what you are looking for.

04: PRESENTATION (3-7 DAYS)

We understand that your story deserves to be shared and watching it for the first time is a special experience. We will help you coordinate a viewing party by reaching out to the people who need to hear your story and organizing a time and place to share it. These viewing parties are the perfect place to relive precious memories and have meaningful conversations with family members and friends. This step truly brings your story full circle.
